Fashion accessories don’t have to be expensive. One of the most striking headpieces in the “glamour with grunge” style is a turban with metal spikes, inspired by the Jennifer Behr brand. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars, make it yourself — it’s quick, easy, and impressive!
Why a spiked turban?
- It’s a bold accent to your look;
- It suits boho, grunge, evening, or everyday styles;
- It’s perfect for fall and winter, protecting your ears from the wind;
- Can be made from an old T-shirt or knit fabric.
What you’ll need:
- Stretchy knit fabric (you can use an old T-shirt, leggings, or scarf);
- Metal spikes (on screws or clips) — 10–30 pieces;
- Needle and thread or sewing machine;
- Scissors;
- Ruler;
- Pins or clips;
- Thin elastic band (optional).
Step-by-step instructions:
- Cut out a rectangle
- Fabric size: approximately 60–65 cm long and 20–25 cm wide;
- If your head is larger/smaller, adjust the size accordingly. The fabric should stretch well but not fall off.
- Sew a turban
Option without patterns:
- Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise, with the right side facing inwards;
- Sew along the long side to form a tube;
- Turn it inside out;
- Fold the ends crosswise towards each other, twist 1–2 times (to form a “knot”);
- Sew the back edges together;
- If necessary, insert elastic at the back for a better fit4
- Decorate with spikes
- Mark where the spikes will be located: in the center, in a row, or in a random order;
- Install the spikes by hand: pierce the fabric and twist/snap them from the inside;
- For convenience, you can use an awl;
- Do not place them too close to the edge or seam — the fabric may tear.
Tips:
- If the fabric is thin, double the layer where the spikes will be;
- Spikes with rivets hold better than adhesive ones;
- This turban can be worn with loose hair or a bun;
- Do not machine wash — wash by hand only.
Result:
You get a stylish, unusual accessory inspired by a luxury brand for pennies. Most importantly, you made it yourself, which means it is unique.
