DIY: 40′s-Style Cute Kitty Beret (for Halloween…?)

DIY: 40s Style Cute Kitty Beret (for Halloween...?)

Now that the weather’s cooling down, I want a cute little hat to wear – not something chunky and heavy just yet, but something that adds just a little bit of warmth.  Something polished, and maybe even a bit kitschy.

And I just LOVE me some kittehs!  I am such a crazy cat lady.  I used to volunteer in Hawaii trapping feral cats and adopting the kittens out to loving homes.  Then I got Cat Scratch Fever.  True story.  Anyway.

DIY: 40s Style Cute Kitty Beret (for Halloween...?)

Cat-themed merch was all over the runways and is now in stores for Fall (check out this lovely printed Wildfox sweaterDIY: 40s Style Cute Kitty Beret (for Halloween...?) and Romwe’s knockoff oh-so-similar version).  So, inspired by berets I’ve been seeing in my Japanese magazines, I decided to create my own Kitty version.  And it’s my first foray into wet wool felting and hat-making.  So stick with me and I’ll show you how!

What to Do with Your Halloween Costume…The Day After (from Elle Magazine)

What to Do with Your Halloween Costume...The Day After (from Elle Magazine)Creative Director of Elle Magazine Joe Zee posted a great little article in this October’s Elle, on how to upcycle certain Halloween costumes into daily wear.  Going as on-trend as possible, taking cues from designer collection, and re-interpreting what you already have on-hand is exactly what I’m always taking about!  Though some of the updates are only do-able if yo only happen to have…certain costumes…just a chop of a skirt or the pairing with modern accessories can definitely re-invent the cheesy, costumey, and polyester.  (Though I’m a little perplexed as to how those front slashes in the Freddy Krueger sweater magically healed themselves in the updated version…;-)

Spooky Spiderweb Nails with Crackle Nail Polish

Spooky Spiderweb Nails with Crackle Nail Polish In honor of Halloween, I tried out my new Mia Secret Crackle Nail Polish in blackSpooky Spiderweb Nails with Crackle Nail Polish, over a coat of a light baby blue (Sally Hansen).  The effect reminds me of a turquoise snakeskin…or black spiderweb netting over my nails.  MIA Secret is a lot cheaper than OPI, too – at around $4 for the polish + shipping from Amazon.com.  I think the crackle effect would be different if I stroked the polish from side-to-side over the nail too!
Spooky Spiderweb Nails with Crackle Nail PolishI totally love this effect!

Happy Halloween to everyone!  Hope it’s a great one~
