I’m Really Not on Tumblr…

Im Really Not on Tumblr... But somebody else using the same name as my blog is.

“Chic Steals” on Tumblr

…is a reblogged-content Tumblr with some affordable links and reblogged DIY tutorials that have been floating around on the blogosphere.  This is not me.  This has nothing to do with this blog, Chic Steals (www.chic-steals.com and www.chicsteals.com).  Please don’t be confused.

P.S. Perhaps a cease-and-desist letter is in order?  Not quite sure what to do…any advice, dear readers?

  1. This isn’t good. I’ve already seen this happen to successful Tumblr blogs where people take a name like scissorsandthread (a real blog) and turn it into scissorsandthreads. I never assume a Tumblr blog with the same name as a blog I read off of Tumblr (like yours) is from the same person until I see the Tumblr link on their non-Tumblr blogs. I would write Tumblr support immediately. They have actually responded recently to my requests to have blogs “terminated” that have blogged just amazon affiliate links (some using content found on my blog). So I’d go there first – they usually reply within a few hours. There are so many good things about Tumblr when done right – but there are some also really not great things that I’m trying to change with my blog.

  2. Hmm, maybe not worry about it. That name is kind of on the fence to me, and it doesn’t seem to be actual competition. Unless it’s coming up before your site on Google or something, I’d probably juts ignore. You might try a cease and desist but the average Tumblr user might fight you on it!

I agree with truebluemeandyou. More, this tumblr appears to be not really active. There are nothing posted on it since May.

  4. would it be possible to send the owner of the blog a message? he/she may not even be aware of the fact that their blog shares a name with you. it’s best to not rush into any sort of action if you’re not even sure if it’s a honest mistake or not. especially in this day and age where almost nothing is original because of the internet, you should really check first before deciding what to do. better safe than sorry.

as long as they’re not using your content, I don’t see a problem.

If you decide to do something, a good starting point is probably a polite letter saying you’ve been blogging as Chic Steals for x amount of time and would appreciate them changing their blog name by x date.

If they haven’t been active, however, there’s a good chance they aren’t signing into Tumblr any more and won’t ever see the message. If this happens, or if they just flat-out ignore you, then it’s probably a good time to contact Tumblr support and see if they can either contact the blog owner or remove the blog.

I’m no expert, but I’ve seen this approach used before, and it seems to cover all the bases.
